The battery is one of the most expensive components on a cargo bike, so it makes sense to choose carefully. Many people mistakenly believe that you should always choose the largest battery, but if you rarely ride long distances without charging, this may be overkill.
What determines the range? The range of a cargo bike depends primarily on the battery capacity (measured in Watt-hours or Ampere Ah), but many other factors also play a role. For example, the rider's weight, number of children, luggage, terrain, wind, temperature, tire pressure and how much you pedal yourself affect the battery's range.
A fully loaded cargo bike on a cold and windy day naturally uses more power than a light ride in the summer sun.
Our rules of thumb:
-
Standard battery (396 Wh - Range up to 50 km): A solid choice for daily driving with moderate loads. Ideal for institutional trips, shopping and shorter commuting distances where you charge regularly and drive primarily in urban areas.
-
Boost battery (540 Wh = Range between 50 to 80 km): For the active family or business user who uses the cargo bike as a replacement for the car. Provides extra security in everyday life - even when the bike is heavily loaded or the wind picks up.
- Long Range Battery (691 Wh - 720 Wh = Range between 80 and 125 km): Our most powerful batteries for maximum freedom. Perfect for long days on the road, heavy loads and minimal charging. For those who want to have more - regardless of distance, weather and weight.
Remember, when you choose a battery and register it with Promovec within 14 days of purchase, you get a full 5-year warranty. This is your peace of mind for many good kilometers.
